The New Ten replaced its predecessor the Series II 10/40 on 10th February 1939 as a saloon, with a Coupe version following on 20th June (the only other Coupe being marketed at that time and for some years being that of the much larger 25 hp). Approximately 7,800 examples of the Ten were produced.

As with the larger Series III models introduced prior to the New Ten, the noticeable differences are that both front and rear doors are hinged at the rear, and the spare wheel now being stored horizontally in its own boot with the rear number plate being embodied in the boot flap.

The chromework along the bonnet louvres is now two separate horizontal strips rather than totally encompassing each of the louvres as seen in the earlier Series II 10/40.

The New Ten was the last of the series III models introduced before production ceased during the war, until being re-introduced as the 'Ten' available in saloon form post war. The smallest of the Series III models being the new Eight having to wait until after the war.
